The 1001
Apprenticeship Program

Ready to jump in? Join our proven, part-time program for NWC leaders.

The apprenticeship with 1001

has been an invaluable experience.

The trainings, resources, connections, and, most importantly the community, were very empowering.

It was a weekly reminder that I don’t have to do it alone, and I miss it every day.

1:1 Coaching

All apprentices are matched with a 1001 NWC coach, who meets regularly with the NWC leader to navigate roadblocks and take next steps. 1001 has one of the largest and most diverse networks of trained coaches anywhere, whose passion is to help your ministry - and you- to thrive.

Weekly Cohort

The apprenticeship provides consistent support to the NWC leader, who can look forward to seeing others navigating the same call, every Thursday for nine months on Zoom. Focus rotates between spiritual direction, interviews with NWC leaders, and dialogical training.

Starting Your NWC

Whether you are a seasoned NWC leader or someone whose community is emerging this year, the apprenticeship's most important component is to simply get started. We will guide you through next steps, from establishing vision, to gathering strategically, and setting goals and next steps.

  • What is coaching? What is the role of a coach?
Coaching is a powerful conversation set aside for a specific type of listening, planning, and discernment. Through a supportive yet challenging manner the coach facilitates a space and asks questions that move the client along a path toward fulfillment of their goals and dreams. The client always remains the expert! Most new worshiping community leaders do not provide enough time in their schedules for reflection. Moreover, the nature of their ministry and work is often filled with the chaos of constant decision-making and transition. During coaching sessions, the client (the NWC leader) receives the attention of an individual trained to evoke the type of questions and hold space that allow the NWC leader to discover, clarify and align with God’s mission in a particular context. 1001 NWC utilizes the training and accreditation of the global standard in coaching, the International Coaching Federation (ICF). Click here for a list of the Core Competencies that we demonstrate and practice.
  • How much does coaching cost?
In our network, we recommend a base rate of $1500 per 12-month contract for new worshipping community leaders. This includes, typically, one, 60-minute coaching session per month. Coaching contracts can be for a shorter duration, or more intensive. Coaching fees can be covered by the NWC, presbytery, leader, or through grants or general funds. If you are in need of a coach, please don't let funding be a hindrance. Reach out to Jeff.
  • Can anyone get a coach? Do I have to be an NWC leader with 1001 to use this network?
Anyone can benefit from coaching! At 1001, we are so passionate about the benefit of coaching that we have trained and supported over 100 coaches in our network. Sure, the majority of our coaches have clients who are NWC leaders. But coaching is a very useful resource that can benefit other pastors, organizational leaders, teams, or anyone in search of more support as they discern through a transitional time in their life. Think you might benefit from coaching? Go ahead at fill out this form! If another type of resource is more appropriate for your life or situation, we are ethically and professionally obligated to refer you to a different resource.
  • Is coaching required for leaders in the 1001 NWC network?
While coaching is not required at the Seed Grant Level for NWC leaders, it is encouraged. There are so many decisions to be made as an NWC leader, even before an NWC officially starts. We encourage you to fill out this form to explore a free coaching session with one of our coaches to see what it's like. To be eligible for a second-level (Investment) and third-level (Growth) grant with 1001 NWC, you will be asked to verify your coach. It is not required that your coach be a part of the 1001 NWC network, but it is required that you have a coach to receive second and third-level grant funding. If you'd like to explore our coaching process, please fill out this short survey, and Jeff will be in touch!
  • How does the coach matching process work within 1001?
The first step is to fill out this form. Tell us about yourself, your project, and anything else you'd like us to know about what kind of coaching relationship might serve you best. Jeff will then facilitate an introduction via email between you and a prospective coach (or more than one). That person will set-up a sample, free coaching session with you so you can get a feel for what coaching would be like together. After the session, you let us know how you'd like to proceed. If you're ready to get started, you can set up a coaching covenant directly with your coach, and schedule your next session! At any point during your coaching experience please be in touch with Jeff for any support or questions!
